The Pennine Hotel
Where quality counts...
The Pennine Hotel has recently undergone a total refurbishment after a flooding. The bar has had a revamp and the rooms upstairs have been modernised and upgraded. (March 2009)
Testimonials:
John: I noticed the previous review and went to see the hotel and noticed that it had new owners from March 2009, it looked very nice from the outside and when we entered it had all been revamped. The rooms upstairs were a bit bare but had all the essentials we required and were clean and tidy. I am sure that with a bit of love and care, which it seems the new owner has, they will soon be as good as you would find anywhere in the locality.
All in all we were very pleased with our stay and would most certainly recommend it to friends and family and indeed to anyone who is looking for a quiet holiday break.
Meals were available and a separate eatery is available at the rear of the pub itself.

Kirkby Stephen is a small town in the Upper Eden valley which was formerly in the old county of Westmorland, now Cumbria. This is an area of Cumbria much less well known than the Lake District, but equally appealing. A traditional market town of historic buildings, cobbled yards, quaint corners and interesting shops, it is surrounded by a landscape of pastoral rural scenery and wild uplands. Being remote from large towns and population centres, Kirkby Stephen has developed a strong and self-sufficient identity and a vibrant sense of community.
The Town Council aims to respond to the needs and aspirations of the people it represents and to undertake work which benefits the town and its residents. It is also active in addressing local issues, dealing with any problems which arise and generally 'getting things done!'

Pennine Hotel Opens its Doors:
After a period of almost a year, The Pennine Hotel in the market square of Kirkby Stephen re-opens under the management of entrepreuner Adrian Robson. Mr Robson who owns and operates two waste transfer stations in the Carlisle area, decided to open the hotel after seeing it in a state of dis-repair. He stated his family was brought up in the area and it broke his heart to see the 300 year old pub closed to the public.

Kirkby Stephen :
Kirkby Stephen is a market town and at 600 feet is the highest town on the banks of the River Eden.
It is the half way point of Wainwright's Coast to Coast long distance walk and the Pennine Way passes nearby.
The town dates back to the time of the Danes in 850AD and was granted a market charter by King Edward III in 1361
